Most people hate change. Personal change. Organizational change. Vision change. Schedule change. Change in their pocket. What is it about change that people fret about so much? People get frustrated, angry and resistant.
Change is the opposite of routine, tradition, familiarity, what’s expected of me. It shakes our world up in small or big ways. Even if we can tolerate change that we create, we certainly don’t like it imposed upon us by others.
#BeingALeader means you not only embrace change when it comes but you seek it out. Change is what provides the fire for innovation. You embrace it like a warm blanket and say “finally we can do something different.”
Remember that old adage that says the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? It’s time to expect different results and in order to do that we must change what we are doing.
I hear people say “Don’t change for change sake.” But that kind of change isn’t always a bad thing. The fact the someone thought it important enough to change something probably means what you were doing needs improvement, innovation or at least a refreshing input of ideas.
Now there are areas where I hate change. The biggest area for me is food. I eat the same thing. A lot. It’s like the anchor for all the change that occurs in my life. I’ve tried to change. But alas, it’s my fall back position. Let’s don’t get crazy.
#BeingALeader means you need to change something up. What will you change in your life today?
