#Beingaleader means you are responsible for the culture of your team. Today we are going to touch on communication culture. That is: how do the team members communicate with you and with each other? Good, bad or indifferent?
Simon Sinek had a TED talk about similar things that you can watch here: https://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_why_good_leaders_make_you_feel_safe. The premise of his talk is that the communication culture that a leader must create is one of safety.
Do you people feel safe? Do they trust you? Does the culture you create invite open communication? Are you creating the environment to enhance the capacity of your team to do great things? For others? For you? When they say things to you are you quick to react negatively or are you able to respond professionally?
Servant leadership plays into this. #Beingaleader creates that trust from your team if they see you as all being part of the team, community, etc. Are you willing to show them the way; show them how to do it; and have them experience it directly from you? #Beingaleader is leading by example. You get back from others on your team what you invest in them.
#Beingaleader means you put them first. They will then put each other first. What people come to mind when I ask you to think about great leaders of the past? Leaders that people wanted to be around? Those people created a communication culture that was safe for innovation; great for growth; great for the team or project.
Your goal in #Beingaleader is to create that culture within your team.
