#Beingaleader means that your people trust you. Your motives. Your direction. Your leadership. Otherwise they wouldn’t be following you. They trust you. Not your title or your position. You. Don’t lose it.
#Beingaleader means you need to foster that trust. Build it up. Words. Actions. Attitude. Time spent. You need to invest all of those attributes into your team for them to trust your decisions, your motives and direction. This doesn’t mean you will get it right all of the time but that they will trust your motives behind what was decided and follow you even if it leads them into something uncomfortable.
Building trust comes from the previous experience your team has had in your abilities or competence in #beingaleader. Have you failed them miserably? Have you let them down? The trust level today would be correspondingly low. But if you have built up that trust and shown that you make good and beneficial decisions then their trust level would have a bigger reservoir to draw from.
Does your team give you the benefit of the doubt when you are unable to explain a decision? If you have built up this level of trust then even if they initially question the rationale for what you just decided they will give you time to explain it later if you can but in the meantime implement whatever decision you have made.
#Beingaleader means you don’t use fear to get compliance with your decisions. You rely on that built up trust; that you have been trustworthy in the past.
#Beingaleader means that people trust you. Build on it. Cultivate it. It is like currency. Spend it wisely.
