#Beingaleader means you are self-aware. Self-aware is defined as “being honest with yourself.” You need to answer at least these two important questions in this regard: “Who are you?” and “What brings you life?” You cannot truly be in the right place as a leader without being honest with how you were made, what your personality is, what gifts you have, and what brings you life.
#Beingaleader means you know who you are. How do you react to various situations? Do you know what stresses you out? What brings you joy or comfort? What is your ‘go-to’ for satisfaction? If you have led anything for any period of time you know that you are often placed in similar situations that cause a specific reaction either in your emotion or your action. Being able to analyze how you responded and why in those situations will help you become more self-aware.
I call myself a selective-extrovert. What I mean by that is I can do the “extroverty” type things to get the job done but I know they wear me out if not done in moderation. True extroverts get life from crowds. I, on the other hand, need to periodically retreat to re-charge from such activity in order to do it again the next time.
#Beingaleader means you know what brings you life. What gives you the energy to keep going? What brings you joy in the moment? Make sure you become self-aware enough in this area to allow yourself to be re-charged and re-energized for what your next steps need to be. Is there a specific activity that brings you back? Fishing? Reading a book? A group of friends? Knowing what brings you life will help with your longevity in #beingaleader.
Knowing who you are and what brings you life: these are the first steps to becoming self-aware.
