Purpose

#Beingaleader means you know your purpose. We will talk another time about finding the purpose for your team but today I wanted to touch on finding and knowing the purpose for you and what you are putting your time, energy and money into.

Two recent activities/events in my life have merged to focus my attention on purpose. The first is the campaign to focus on purpose across the entirety of my church family for the next 40 days. The second is the recent “experience” I had at a conference with lots of speakers who dealt with this subject matter.

Several quotes/paraphrases from both of these events are striking in their impact: “It’s not about you”; “If every job paid $1, what would you do with your life?”; and “Passion is the fuel but your purpose is the same regardless of what you do and it lasts forever.”

“It’s not about you.” This one is the underlying issue for all of us as we recognize that there is a bigger purpose/plan that our plans and purposes need to fit into. Finding the larger purpose should be our goal. We need to think outside of ourselves and what we think is the right thing to do and think on the One who orders our steps.

“If every job paid $1, what would you do with your life.” I found this one to be quite provocative. It really makes you think about what you would do if money was not an issue. What is the burning desire of your heart? What brings you fulfillment? Those are the type of questions you should be asking to make sure you know and achieve your purpose.

“Passion is the fuel but your purpose is the same regardless of what you do and it lasts forever.” Lots of people are passionate but if you don’t put that passion into your purpose, what’s the point? On the other hand, if all you have is purpose but show no passion you will have limited impact. It’s the combination of passion and purpose that accomplishes much.

#Beingaleader means you live life with purpose. Ask yourself the questions listed above and start putting your passion into your life’s work for the betterment of others.
