Meaning

What brings you meaning? #Beingaleader, you must find meaning in what you do. Without meaning you will flounder in the tough times. And quite frankly, what’s the point if you don’t find meaning in what you do?

Beyond just inspiration, meaning is the sense of purpose wrapped in a gut feel or heart sense that what you are doing helps others and gives you fulfillment. It’s not just about achieving an objective. It’s about what’s going on in your heart.

Purpose is something that is more project specific. Meaning is others-focused and is so deep within a person that it’s difficult to describe. It is what gets you up in the morning and tells you to keep going.

Meaning is deep. Everyone desires it. Seeks it. Needs it to feel satisfied with who they are and what they are doing. Meaning provides people with the sense of hope to persevere.

The opposite would be meaninglessness. Worthless. Even unnecessary. These feelings lead to hopelessness and even despair. They will kill a project and more importantly see you quit whatever you are doing.

So how does one find meaning? That sense of value in what you do and who you are? Some find it in their family. Some find it in a career that is making a difference. I tend to find meaning in participating in something greater than myself. Something that helps others. That gives a sense of satisfaction of a job well done on many levels.

Wherever you need to get it from, meaning is a worthwhile pursuit. Some will find it internally while some externally by hitching their ride to a greater purpose or mission. Wherever you find it, meaning is critical to #beingaleader.
