Timing

#Beingaleader means you need to understand something about timing. When is it best to start? To finish? To change course? To change personnel? How about location? All of these changes might be the right decision but if the timing is off your project or great idea might fail as a result.

While God is never late, we often are. Or early. Sometimes it’s our inability to make decisions that throws the timing off. Sometimes it’s lack of input or insufficient information that gets our timing off. Sometimes it might be stubbornness or simply the exuberance you have to get started.

Timing and planning often go hand in hand as does the counsel of others. The hard part is that you can also over-plan. We often hear that called analysis paralysis where someone just won’t jump. But then there are others that jump too soon. So we need to find a balance between going too early and waiting til it’s too late. That’s why understanding timing is so important to #beingaleader.

Understanding timing can only come from experience. Experience can come from success or failure or even regret. If you jumped too early, you can now better recognize the next situation and get your timing right or at least closer to correct. If you jumped too late, you can coach yourself to come to a decision earlier so you don’t miss out on an opportunity.

#Beingaleader means you need to understand the impact of timing. Be aware of how it impacts what you are trying to accomplish. Don’t be afraid to jump. Just plan ahead to make sure there’s something on the other side to land on.
