Restlessness

#Beingaleader means that sometimes you live in a state of restlessness. I am defining restlessness as the state of mind you have between being content with what you have and believing that there is more out there for you. Contentment with the current state of affairs but not fully satisfied that this is all there is.

It’s what drives people on. To set new goals. Redefine their purpose and go for it. It is often said that necessity is the mother of invention. I would add that restlessness is the father of invention. You need both or nothing happens.

It’s a hard place to live. In that tension. Not wanting to be satisfied with where you are but at the same time enjoying where you are and being content with what you have. It’s sort of the positive side of striving. We often take that as a negative word but it is the striving towards a goal that refines what we are doing and often who we become. It is connected to the iron sharpening iron concept from the Book of Proverbs. Chipping away at the rock to find the diamond beneath.

We don’t want to live in a state of discontent but at the same time we don’t want to settle, either. Thus the tension. Can you find that place where you are happy but still want to improve? How about in others? Can you see in others the great things they may be doing but still see further down the road to what they could accomplish if only they focused or paid more attention or learned a new skill set or something else?

#Beingaleader means you need to live in that tension. The spot that others avoid but are glad when someone wants to push further. Glad that others are leading the way. Glad that others are #beingaleader.
