Forgotten

#Beingaleader means that sometimes you feel forgotten. Alone. Left alone. On your own. Even worse: sometimes you actually are forgotten by others. And yet you continue to lead. Continue to pursue the goal.

#Beingaleader means you often live there. In that moment when you are working hard, even accomplishing your goals, but nobody notices or worse, doesn’t care. Maybe you’ve been leading in an area so long that you are taken for granted. Maybe you’ve done your job so well that no one notices anymore.

Sometimes you are working your heart out and no one notices. They only notice you when there is a problem. A ‘concern’ or more likely a complaint. Then all of a sudden you are remembered. One example comes to mind is when you are somewhere that requires a sound system and no one notices how good the sound is. They only notice when they hear a screech, or it’s louder than they like or whatever. They notice the minute problem but don’t notice the entire concert that went well.

Leaders often struggle with self-worth, self-identify or even total insecurity. They often feel inadequate to the challenge set before them. When others pile on it can take you to the breaking point. The point of quitting. Or worse. We have lost too many leaders at this point. This can be made even worse in this new remote environment in which we currently live where you can go unnoticed and forgotten for longer periods of time due to enforced isolation.

This is the time to identify and find your source of strength and make it sure. Make it unmovable. Make it solid. You cannot rely on those around you to provide you with that security, purpose or even value that you seek. People will let you down. Your team will let you down. If you let them determine your sense of self-worth you will live a roller coaster life.

#Beingaleader means you often feel forgotten. To be a long term leader, you need to find your strength from other sources than from the praise of others.
