#Beingaleader means you are often uncomfortable. Uncomfortable conversations. Uncomfortable meetings. Uncomfortable decisions. Dealing with things most people would rather avoid. And in fact usually do. That’s what #Beingaleader often means.
Uncomfortable conversations could include facing our fears, helping others do the same, telling someone “no”, etc. One of your fears might be these uncomfortable conversations. You naturally want to avoid them but as a leader you must confront that fear time and time again for the good of the team and the individual on your team.
Uncomfortable meetings could be about managing stress, pointing out errors, correcting a pathway someone has chosen, etc. Speaking in public is one of the biggest fears people have. Next to it is probably meeting with someone to point out an issue you see in their work or their life. That one on one time where you either provide a performance evaluation or, for a more personal relationship, identify an issue you see in their attitude or behavior.
Uncomfortable decisions could include firing someone, moving to another company, leaving town, going with a different choice than is popular, etc. Sometimes which decision you make makes you uncomfortable. But sometimes making a decision at all is what makes you uncomfortable. I see so many people that are afraid to make a decision. To take responsibility. To put themselves out there. Perhaps to be wrong. Are you okay with that happening?
#Beingaleader means you need to become comfortable with being uncomfortable.
