Wisdom

#Beingaleader means you need to be growing in wisdom. Wisdom can be defined as applying facts and experience to a new situation with soundness and soberness of mind. It’s the application of internalized knowledge and understanding to situations you have not encountered before.

I was fortunate to hear a sermon many years ago that was a play on words which resulted in me remembering it and causing deep impact in my understanding. The speaker said in essence that too often we say “live and learn” but we should instead be “learning to live”. In other words, why must you experience everything before you can learn to do or not do something? We already have the experience of others we can draw from. We have our own past experience to draw from. We shouldn’t have to continue to act like what we are going through is universally new without taking the opportunity to learn from others’ experience.

Acting with wisdom should be the goal. A lot of errors or mistakes can be avoided. Applying wisdom is key to a successful enterprise or goal achievement. You should pursue it. Look for it. See the necessity of finding it.

While my posts are meant for universal leadership appeal and application, you cannot touch on the topic of wisdom without swerving into a discussion of the spiritual. My small group at church is currently going through a wisdom study. The biblical definition of the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. This means that to really know truth and to apply wisdom to life’s circumstances you must acknowledge that God is all powerful, He is in control, and you can trust Him.

#Beingaleader means you need more wisdom. How wise are you?
