#Beingaleader means you need to remember to lead you. I started out writing my blog (see https://beingaleader.blog/2019/01/08/leading-you/) on the topic of Leading you. Specifically, I touched on learning from others. You should continue to do so.
But you also have to learn from you. Your past experience. Mistakes you’ve made. Things you got right. Keep building from where you are at.
#Beingaleader means you need to learn from your past experience. It surprises me sometimes when I see people with experience forget they have experience. It might not be the exact situation repeating itself but it has the same characteristics of something they’ve worked on successfully before but are having trouble applying it to the new scenario. Sometimes it might be fear. But sometimes it is simply reminding yourself of the previous situation and having the confidence to apply its lessons to the present situation.
#Beingaleader means you need to learn from your mistakes. Mistakes are okay only if you learn from them. They are not okay if you repeat them unnecessarily. So sometimes it’s important to reflect on what you did wrong. How you reacted badly. Or responded harshly. Or simply made a bad decision to determine what can be learned and applied going forward.
#Beingaleader means you need to learn from what you got right. Too many books are written about learning from our mistakes and not enough on learning from doing it right. Most of the time you probably get it right. Begin to have confidence in your decision making ability and leadership to apply them to new situations. Trust your abilities to apply what you have learned to something new.
#Beingaleader means you need to remember to lead you. No one else can do it for you.
