PTO

#Beingaleader means you need to take paid time off (PTO) – vacation, holidays,  a break, sabbatical or whatever you might call it. It’s important for your longevity and sharpness.

I see too many leaders who cannot disconnect. They don’t allow for time to rejuvenate or to give themselves time to clear their mind. This will kill your longevity. It’s vital for your physical and mental health. The ability to disconnect is a skill you must master. It’s part of the reason for creating a team to support you while you’re gone so you know the business moves forward. But for yourself you have to understand how it benefits you specifically. Many leaders view it as a weakness or simply unnecessary.  They will pay in some area of their life. Health. Success. Family.

Taking time off on a regular basis is also important to maintain your sharpness and creativity. My best ideas often come after I’ve taken a break. I’m able to see more clearly and I’ve allowed time for input from sources that I don’t normally have time for. Whether reading, listening or simply allowing my mind to think creatively. It’s vital to create the space on a regular basis.

#Beingaleader means you need to take a break.  Schedule it. Make it a priority.
