#Beingaleader means you need to take time to remember. The good. The bad. Successes. Failures. What worked and what didn’t. All are lessons you can learn from for the future. This is blog #100 for me. So I wanted to take a moment and remember almost 2 years of intentional weekly writing with the focus on leadership.
First off, it required intentionality. This means a decision needed to be made to write every week. There was no well of writing to draw from. It had to be timely, fresh and every week. This meant that I had to keep doing it regardless of how I felt at the moment. These are not planned out but rather topics on my mind each week so I had to keep fresh in my thinking. Intentionality is just a decision that is repeated.
Secondly, my focus has been on leadership topics regardless of type of leadership. While I am a lawyer by profession, I also have had leadership responsibilities at home, in the church and in the community. All of these areas require leadership and they cross pollinate in terms of topics and ideas. Learning about handling your feelings and attitude or leading yourself are relevant in each area of leadership you may touch.
And so I remember. The times when I didn’t have anything to say. Or didn’t want to say it. Or wasn’t sure anyone was reading it anyway. Remembering helps to sharpen you. To focus on what’s important. What motivates me is the hope that at some point some time in the future someone will read something that will change the destination of their leadership. That it will have impact beyond my knowledge and perhaps will be taken, improved upon and used to train the next generation of leaders at work, home, church and community.
#Beingaleader means you need to remember. Remember well.
