Incrementalism

#Beingaleader means you have to learn about incrementalism: taking steps in a direction. For growth, for products and for progress on change.

#Beingaleader means you should be taking steps for growth. Oftentimes, small steps. But still heading in the direction you want to go. Don’t let impatience take away from evaluating the success you are in fact achieving. We all wish we would grow faster. Or our team would grow faster in their skillsets. But look for positive steps. Reinforce those. You will get more of the same and have the encouragement that growth is actually happening.

#Beingaleader means you should be taking steps to enhance your products. In my field, we often hear about the creating an MVP – minimally viable product. This is where you do not allow the pursuit of perfection to get in the way of making progress. Perhaps the product you want to create or the chart you need to produce or the memo you need to draft or the software you are creating needs to come in stages. Creating a draft or an MVP will allow you to move in the right direction, allow for others on your team to help you make it better and in the end achieve the success you are striving for.

#Beingaleader means you should track your progress steps in making change. Wholesale change can be difficult and require lots of stakeholder approvals. Incremental change that moves you in the direction you want to go can usually be achieved without upsetting the process if you are diligent in implementing those baby steps toward your overall goal. It’s like turning a battleship rather than a fighter aircraft. Slow and steady does, in fact, win the race. Don’t look down on incremental change.

#Beingaleader means you need to learn about incrementalism. View slow growth and slow steps as success toward you end goal.
