Burnout

#Beingaleader means at some point you may come fact to face with the possibility of burnout. Exhausted. At the brink. Not wanting to keep going. Today’s topic is not so much about how to deal with burnout once it happens but rather how to avoid burnout in the first place. Today we will focus on sustainability, rest and motivation.

#Beingaleader means you need to focus on sustainability. Are you able to set your schedule to be sustainable? Almost all of us would immediately answer “No”. But let’s dig a little deeper. Remember what the goal is. Sustainability that avoids burnout. Can you balance your activities? Can you find the spaces in between to allow you to recharge? Being able to say “no” to activities that are good but take you away from your overall purpose might be the key to sustainability. Things that fill up the calendar and squeeze you but don’t move you toward your vision.

#Beingaleader means you need to focus on rest. R&R. This cannot be overstated. Rest is not just critical to health in general but it’s important for retaining your ability to keep going. But not just rest. A focus on rest. Intentionality. Scheduled. Realizing its importance. Making it a priority. Much like PTO (See https://beingaleader.blog/2020/10/13/pto/), rest is continual. It can even occur in the busyness of life. Moments in the day. It’s the healthy version of ‘serenity now’. Rest must be part of your overall plan for success.

#Beingaleader means you need to focus on your motivation. What keeps you going. Motivation is an internal process. Do you enjoy what you are leading? Those whom you are leading? Motivation comes from understanding and leaning into your “why”. Are you able to motivate yourself? To see the big picture even when fighting the small details of life that seem to crowd out purpose? Being able to self-motivate is one more step or tool you have to avoid burnout.

#Beingaleader means you need to plan now to avoid burnout. #Beingaleader means we need your leadership to continue.
