Show Up

#Beingaleader means you need to show up. Physically. Emotionally. And for them.

#Beingaleader means you need to show up physically. People need to see you. To see what you value. To encourage them to show up as well. To set the standard. Whatever you want to call it, it means that you can’t hide for long periods of time from those you are trying to lead. Some try to lead from behind locked office doors. Some try to lead when it’s only convenient for them. #Beingaleader means you have to show up sometimes just for the purpose of being seen physically participating in what you say you value as a team.

#Beingaleader means you need to show up emotionally. I’ve noticed each generation can have different levels of emotional abilities so this will appear differently for everyone. But for those who tend to hide their emotions, your team (family, organization or whatever) needs to have you show up emotionally. Sometimes as a bellwether. Sometimes as an example of how others should respond. Sometimes as a means to say to others that it’s okay to respond emotionally to certain events. Basically, act human. Be human. Let your team be human.

#Beingaleader means you need to show up for them. That’s your purpose. Most of the time, showing up is for others. Not for you. While you may get benefit from it, showing up helps build the team. Builds their morale. Creates loyalty and longevity. But this can be very hard at times. You might not see the immediate benefits. You might have (and likely do have) multiple excuses to avoid showing up. Show up anyway. Your team needs you.

#Beingaleader means you need to show up. So, stop hiding.
