Safe

#Beingaleader means you need to make your team feel safe. That sense of trust in your judgment. In the “ok-ness” of making mistakes. And the celebration of success.

#Beingaleader means that your team needs to feel safe in your judgment. Do you have a track record of making right decisions? Does your team trust that you are seeking the best available information and input as needed to take the next step? Building a track record takes time and comes in small and large steps depending on the decisions that need to be made. But start now to get input. To seek advice. To use your experience. Find a way to build that trust so they feel safe with you.

#Beingaleader means that your team needs to feel safe to make mistakes. Mistakes happen. Owning up to them matters but feeling safe that your wrath will not be put upon them will make them a stronger team member. Mistakes should be learning experiences. Very few should be the death knell for a team member. If they are willing to learn then they should now have additional experience to use going forward. If, however, they are afraid to make mistakes then they will limit their potential and yours as well.

#Beingaleader means that your team need to feel safe to succeed. Strange as it sounds, not every leader likes to see those under them succeed. Some might feel threatened. Some jealous about the accolades given to others. They don’t always see the team’s success as their own but rather as a rival to their own. Avoid such leaders. Don’t be one. Celebrate their wins. It will make them stronger, more energized and better for the team.

#Beingaleader means you make your team feel safe. It’s up to you to create that environment.
