Motivate

#Beingaleader means you have to motivate yourself. Again and again. To do the things that need to be done. To do the things you may not want to do. To set yourself on the path to success. There is no easy success. And often it is not flashy. Sort of like raising a child. It’s mostly messes and cleanup. But the goal remains. Raise a healthy, vibrant and generous adult. People might see the success but they don’t see the journey. But you know it very well.

You have to motivate yourself. To draw from within. To get up in the morning. To do the next thing. You cannot look externally for this. It’s what separates you as a leader. Whether for a family or a global enterprise, the motivation can wane and you need to come up with the ‘why’ you are doing it. To get out of bed again and do the next thing.

You have certain things that need to be done. To be accomplished during a day, week or specific time period. You usually know what they are. You just often don’t want to do them. You’re tired. Perhaps you don’t think it’s making a difference. That no one sees what you’re doing. That’s when you have to dig deep and keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Oftentimes, it is things you don’t want to do. But must be done. That lay the groundwork for what you really want to be doing. You might not like cold calling as a sales person but you like the impact your effectiveness has on your customer base as well as your bottom line. Perhaps you don’t like setting up the zoom call but the meeting was important to happen. Or you don’t want to attend that parent/teacher conference but you dig deep and go anyway so that your child is given every opportunity.

#Beingaleader is tough. You need to motivate yourself. Don’t stop.
