Compliment

#Beingaleader means you need to learn to compliment others. Compliments that focus on success. Compliments that are frequent. And ones that are done intentionally.

#Beingaleader means that your compliments should focus on success. The success of your team member or your child. Everyone seems to receive an abundance of negative feedback whether intentional or unintentional. They need to have their bucket of compliments filled from time to time. While everyone on the team can participate, it is a requirement for you as the leader.

#Beingaleader means your compliments should be frequent. By frequent, I mean more than just annual performance reviews. There should be many more opportunities to point out someone’s successes than that. In fact, the annual review should be more of a recap rather than the moment when you singularly congratulate someone. Frequency depends on your direct exposure to someone on your team but for those you are regularly with it should be many times in a year.

#Beingaleader means your compliments should be done intentionally. Even programmatically. If you are not the personality type that gives compliments unintentionally, then you need to make it part of your schedule. To look for opportunities. To provide praise. To not always focus on someone’s shortcomings but intentionally look for things you can compliment them on. They need it. And it’s your job.

#Beingaleader means you need to learn to compliment others. They will appreciate it.
