Steady

#Beingaleader means you need to be a steady leader. A steady person. Steady means you are consistent but it is more than just consistent. Steady means you are a rock during a tempest. Steady means you will always be there. That you don’t run from a fight. That while others go up and down with emotional responses, you try to apply wisdom and, perhaps, even restraint.

Steady means you will be there later as you are now. Showing up. Doing the things that matter for your team, your family or organization. Some call it ‘doing the right thing’ but it’s more than that too. It’s a combination of doing the right thing, still being there, being a rock and wisdom application. Steady doesn’t mean boring or not dynamic. It’s more about how people perceive you as being secure in yourself, your decisions and the direction you’re headed.

It’s hard to know how much of this is personality driven vs. a learned behavior but I find that many young or insecure leaders are not steady. And I don’t mean leader confidence. They often have that. But they’re simply not steady in their approach. They sometimes want flashy or quick fixes. They can’t be counted on when things get tough. Perhaps they are confrontational to hide their insecurity. Here is where longevity can be your friend. It shows a track record. Something for others to look to and get their confidence from.

#Beingaleader means you need to be steady. Steady on.
