#Beingaleader means you need to have hope. Hope for yourself. Hope for your team. Hope for the future. Not hope in. Hope for. Hope is placed on something or someone outside of yourself and your circumstance that you can know is going to change everything.
Hope is more than being positive about life or the situation you are looking for. Hope is about that feeling of certainty that something good will actually happen. While positivity is about turning a blind eye to what’s actually happening on your team or in your life, hope is knowing that things will get better if you follow certain steps.
As an example, you can be positive about your financial future but it’s totally irrelevant to actually having a secure financial future. Hope is more like saving and investing now ‘knowing’ that the future you are building for yourself is going to be more secure. That is closer to real hope. Hope is not fantasy. It’s doing the steps. Doing the things you need to do with the hope that those things will change the situation or future for yourself or your team.
So how do you develop hope? It’s interesting that positivity does play a part in having hope. If you are always negative, it is unlikely you will have hope. It’s just that positivity isn’t enough. You also need action. So positivity + well thought out action leads to hope.
