Time

#Beingaleader means you have to be concerned about time. Having enough. Using it wisely. Prioritizing. Deciding who gets it. And, by necessity, who doesn’t. How much thought you give to one thing vs. another. Time. It’s all about how you spend it.

Allocation of time is one of the most important things you do as a leader. How much time you give to self-care. How much to get input into your life. How much to relax. How much to give out. How much for strategic thinking etc.

Since everyone has the same amount of time per day, it is a matter of wisdom to determine how to spend it the most effectively. Often others dictate certain aspects of time within each day (work, family, etc.) but even in those situations you have to learn to make the wisest choices within those parameters to help out each group / team etc. that you need to.

You might spend 80+ hours a week working on your career and become a great provider but lose your family. You might spend it all on your family but lose your career. Wisdom dictates finding the right balance between competing interests. Here’s the thing: most of the time you will feel like you’re failing in the proper allocation of time. To me that’s not the biggest issue. The biggest issue is recognizing that there is a balancing act you are in. It’s awareness. Prior to awareness you don’t think anything is wrong. After awareness you recognize things might be out of balance and now you can work on creating the best balance in the particular phase of life you are in.

#Beingaleader means you need to be aware of your time. We only have so much.
