Old books. Why are old books important to read? Because culture changes. Viewpoints change. And it’s important to see how people did things in the past. How they thought. How they responded. There is a lot of stability and perspective that comes from reading from others’ experience in the past.
New books. Why are new books important to read? Because culture changes. Viewpoints change. And it’s important to see how people are doing things that are new and varied from our own experience. How people are thinking today about new problems with innovative ideas.
Different topics and subject matter. It’s amazing to me how I can be reading about theology or parenting or entrepreneurship and find a principle that I can apply to something totally different. It expands our thought process and allows for new ideas to emerge.
