#Beingaleader means you often have to do things unnoticed. This may seem contrary to your concept of leadership which is often portrayed as being upfront. In the center of attention. Noticed. That’s the overall, outsider perception. And if that’s what you’re seeking then you need to rethink what leadership is. It’s like looking at the iceberg meme where everyone sees the small part that’s out of the water but not the massive ice block underneath the water. Invisible. Unnoticed.
The extra work. The extra thinking process. The set ups. The tear downs. The sweeping. The last minute shopping trip. The printing or copying. The scheduling. The decision making. The preparation. The many times that the written or spoken notes are thrown away and never used because you decided to go in a different direction. The visiting of new sites or locations. So many things. Unnoticed.
This is not a plea for more follower gratitude. This is an attempt to help you as a leader realize what you have gotten yourself into. Saying it straight out: most of what you do will go unnoticed. You need to understand it. Be okay with it. Embrace it.
#Beingaleader means what you do often goes unnoticed. Know why you do what you do.
