#Beingaleader means you have to understand rules. What they are. Clear and unclear. Spoken and unspoken. When to follow them. And when to sidestep them.
There are so many rules in life and in work. You need to know the important ones and know how they apply. You also need to identify when they don’t apply and what the potential consequences are. It’s not good enough to just say you are following orders. #Beingaleader means you have to think for yourself. Look at the consequences of action and inaction. And be willing to make the decision knowing what the consequences might be.
Too often I see people who should be leaders act like they don’t need to take responsibility. “It’s not my job” is a mantra heard too often. “I don’t care about the consequences, if it makes my job easier I will do it” is another that should be abandoned forever.
#Beingaleader things you need to think of the whole. It means we need to care about what happens to your process or product or people when they leave your area of responsibility and move on to someone else’s. You should not hide. You should take responsibility. To know the rules and know when to use them.
#Beingaleader means you know how to apply the rules. Apply them appropriately.
