Bitterness

#Beingaleader means you have to deal with your bitterness. Towards others. Towards yourself. Towards the circumstances that you find yourself in today. Bitterness can be defined as “anger and disappointment at being treated unfairly.” How you deal with bitterness will have a huge impact on your success as a leader.

How do you react when you feel that you are being or have been treated unfairly? Do you allow yourself to hold onto the hurts? Do you hold grudges? Do you allow those feelings to take hold of you and allow them to fester? Or do you release it? Allowing yourself to move forward without that baggage hanging on to you?

This doesn’t mean you don’t have any bitterness. Or that you don’t have ‘the right’ to hold onto that bitterness. But you must ask yourself the question: who are you hurting by holding onto that bitterness? Are you somehow getting back at the offending party? Or are you just hurting and hindering yourself from moving forward?

#Beingaleader means you have to balance a lot of things, including emotions. To be able to analyze the situation you find yourself in, analyze the feelings that are resulting and make the appropriate response(s) so that you can move forward.

#Beingaleader means you have to deal with your bitterness. Deal with it daily.
