#Beingaleader means you have to deal with stress. All kinds. All of the time. Some created by others. Some by circumstances. Some by yourself.
Stress from others. I think there are two kinds: legitimate and illegitimate. Legitimate stress from others are things that must get done based upon the job or relationship you have with this person. And that you feel obligated to help them deal with a situation. Illegitimate stress moves into the area of co-dependence and manipulation and these need to be broken off so that they don’t control your life or your responses.
Stress from circumstances. You can’t always change the circumstances, but you need to work on your response to those circumstances. Nobody lives a stress free life. We all have challenges. However, we need to learn to calm the moment. Use our stress relievers that work for us to allow ourselves to weather the circumstances of the moment. These stresses often come and go. If they are a constant, then other decisions about our life are likely needed.
Stress from yourself should be eliminated if at all possible. Why do you add to your own stress? Why do you take on the expectations of others and place that burden upon yourself to try to live up to? Or perhaps you have your own intense level of expectation that isn’t realistic for where you are today? Lay it down. Easy to say. Hard to do. But it’s a process that should move you on a journey to feeling free.
