Collaborate

#Beingaleader means you have to collaborate with others. Jointly. Together. With others. Those are not necessarily the things done by a boss. But they are things done by a leader.

So many bosses like to be lone rangers. Commanding from on high. Barking orders. Telling people what to do. But a leader works with their people. Helps them get better. Leaders know they bring something to the table but so do the other members on their team. Leaders know that success is more achievable working together using what others bring to the table. To collaborate.

Problem solving. Vision achieving. Success. These are the results when a leader collaborates with their team. Now, that doesn’t mean everything is easier when you collaborate. It’s often harder. People will question which move to make. People will brainstorm. Many ideas might need to be discarded. Difficult discussions might need to be had. But in the end, the result is usually better.

All of this is based upon certain assumptions: that each member wants the best for the whole, and that their contribution is sincere. This is where it often fails with school projects where you have a group working on a project where one or more members doesn’t care. Or a team project where a team member likes to sabotage progress. It’s important to make sure that your team, while containing diverse points of view, has a singular goal in mind. Pick your team to the best of your ability.

#Beingaleader means you have to collaborate with others. Be good to work with.
