Yesterday

#Beingaleader means you have to deal with yesterday. Yes, we live in today. Yes, we plan for tomorrow. But sometimes it’s yesterday that’s holding us back. Keeping us from focusing on today. Keeping us from moving forward.

Yesterday can be very powerful. Mistakes were made. Relationships harmed. Missteps. Hurt feelings. Regrets. All of these can hold you back from what is next for you. And while it’s probably the hardest thing you can do, you need to leave it in yesterday. Some things need to be dealt with but other things just need to be left where they are and move on. Don’t dwell on yesterday.

I’m tempted to link my favorite comedy sketch with Bob Newhart entitled “Stop it” (ok, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvujypVVBAY) where he’s ‘helping’ a patient dealing with fears in her life. I’m not making light of hurts in your past or traumas that you need to deal with before you can move forward. But a lot of us carry things we were never meant to carry and those things from yesterday need to stay in yesterday. So, just stop it.
