Execution

#Beingaleader means you need to be good at execution or have someone on your leadership team that is. It’s one thing to have a vision. Or ideas. It’s another to execute on those plans. For some, ideas are a dime a dozen. But they never get past the idea phase before the person moves on to another idea. And the cycle continues without actually accomplishing anything worthwhile or lasting.

Execution is where the rubber meets the road in terms of success of failure of an idea. Knowing the steps to be taken to achieve the vision. Knowing the pitfalls the avoid. Knowing the questions to ask to refine the vision. That’s execution. It’s getting to the desired outcome by taking the necessary steps to get there.

The interesting thing about this dynamic is that the vision and execution person aren’t always the same person. They can be a duo or a team. Relying on each other’s strengths and recognizing the weaknesses of each as well. But that takes real leadership. To know your strengths and weaknesses and surround yourself with those that shore you up. Not everyone is willing to do that.

If you find yourself spinning your wheels with lots of ideas but never seemingly being able to accomplish what you want to accomplish, maybe you need to grow in the area of execution. Learning the steps of getting an idea to reality instead of spinning up another idea.
