#Beingaleader means you deal with heat. Battle. Deadlines. Pressure. Decision-making. People’s views of you or your team. Misunderstanding. Heat.
Does the heat you find yourself in lead you to overboil? To explode at others or to shut down completely? You need to learn to live with the heat because it is more normal than not when you are a leader. Everyone wants a piece of you. Your time. Your energy. They might not think it requires much on your part but they don’t see the many others also taking just a little of your time as well. They don’t recognize the cumulative impact.
So, you need to be able to handle the heat. Handle your emotions. Handle your time effectively. Be able to be gracious to others even while you are perhaps struggling yourself. Being in the heat doesn’t give permission to unload on others. It’s in the heat that you learn how to be cool. To mature as a leader.
And this happens over time. Maturity isn’t instant and it doesn’t happen just because you have a title. Maturity to handle the heat takes time. So give yourself permission to learn as you go. To be imperfect. But, get better dealing with the heat over time.
#Beingaleader means you deal with heat. Keep your cool.
