#Beingaleader means you have a unique style. A way of dealing with things. A way of communicating. A way of of handling conflict. A way of reaching success. A unique style.
You can learn from a lot of different sources. You can learn things that are new to you. But the way you blend them together is uniquely your style. Learn all you can about steps and processes and ways from others who may be better leaders than you currently are. But implement those steps in a way that makes sense for you. Don’t copy others. Use your own style.
Many young leaders will read a book, hear a podcast or go to a conference and see how other leaders are doing things. And those leaders look very successful. And there’s a lot you can learn from them. But those steps, those ways, or those processes won’t just work verbatim in your life. You have to take them and implement them using your personality, your strengths, your style.
For example, you may hear a take charge kind of leader who tells you to just do it. To just tell people what to do. But you are a leader who likes to wait for consensus. You like a plurality of views. You like waiting to make a decision until the whole team is in agreement. You cannot (and should not) just take that commanding style and implement it. It will crush your team. What you might learn and implement though is the need to make decisions. Not to wait until it’s too late to decide something that you know is right. Maybe you take that commanding style and blend it into your style by pushing you to decide rather than pushing your team. Maybe adding some commanding to your style will make you more successful than waiting. But it will still be your style.
#Beingaleader means you have a unique style. Be you.
