Likeability

#Beingaleader means you understand the importance of likeability. Both for yourself and your team. Your likeability. And theirs. It may not have been a conscious thought process in your mind but you measure it every time you meet someone.

Skill. Experience. Competency. Even Character. All are important. But the packaging in which they are delivered is also very important. You can have all the skill, experience, competency and character but if people don’t like being around you or you put off airs about you that make you unlikeable to others, they will choose someone else to do business with. People like being with likeable people.

So, how does one increase their likeability factor? Let’s break it down into two parts: like and ability. Like is about being attracted to something, often intangibly. It’s when you feel good about someone’s presence even if you can’t define it. It’s about being pleasant. Conversational. Alert. Present. All packaged into one thing: likeability.

Ability is a skill. Something that you can work on. Adjust as needed. Make the necessary corrections from any cues you pick up over time. This can be a tough thing to do regardless of whether you are an introvert or extrovert. Whether you have ADHD or other impacting factors. You can grow your likeability. And I think it’s an important leadership skill to master.

#Beingaleader means you understand the importance of likeability. Work on yours today.
