#Beingaleader means you need to have compassion. For your team. For their experiences and how that impacts them. Compassion is defined as having the desire to take action to help others.
What does it mean to have compassion for someone? It means you know about their circumstance. That you care about their circumstance. And you are desirous to affect change for their circumstance. Let’s keep it in the work environment for our discussion. How do you show compassion for others? Do you know the stress they are under? Do you understand the impact of deadlines and timelines? Do you see the way it is affecting them? What are you doing to help them in those circumstances?
Showing compassion might mean you help them directly. It might also mean you recognize the need for them to struggle but that they might need more training when the current situation is over. It might mean you will talk to those that are causing the stress to see what can be done to alleviate it next time. Compassion is expressed in many different ways. The only question is, do you have any?
So, compassion is much more than caring. Caring is a feeling. Compassion is an action. Don’t just care about someone’s situation. Have compassion. Do something about it if it is in your power to do so. It’s also not pity. It’s not about feeling sorry for them in their circumstance. It’s about wanting to do something to help them in that circumstance. It’s compassion.
#Beingaleader means you need to have compassion. Activate it today.
