Remote

#Beingaleader means you or your team often have to work in a remote environment. Many of us talk to our team around the country or even internationally. We have co-workers in multiple locations that would necessitate a zoom or teams meeting even if we sat in an office somewhere. We are living in the day of remote work.

We have had to learn new ways of doing business. New ways to motivate. New challenges of communication. And new ways of connecting our teams together. All because we are now working remote. We can’t just have a conference room meeting on the spur of the moment. More things need to be planned. Prepared for. Even, anticipated.

Communication is always key in a leadership role. However, in a remote work place, communication becomes critical. Type. Tone. Frequency. Clarity. While always important, in a remote world they can make or break your team. They can either connect people or separate them.

Inspiration is another key to success in a remote world. Inspiring people. Accountability. Results driven. Giving people the goals. The tasks. Even the broad strokes of what they were hired to do and letting them do it. I have heard for years people saying they need to be able to check up on someone to see if they are working. But, in fact, they rarely do. Or in this remote world, the check-in can be done without standing at their cubicle entrance.

But success isn’t just on the head of the leader. There must also be self-leadership from each team member in order to reach mutual goals. Each of us needs to just do our job. Do the things we were hired to do. And be able to do it without regular oversight. Lead your-self.

#Beingaleader means you often have to work remote. Let’s excel at it.
