Multi-Generational

#Beingaleader means you need to understand the multi-generational aspect of leadership and the marketplace. It’s a skill you need to learn and apply.

Each generation has different things that motivate them. Different ways of expressing themselves. Different ways of communicating. Different ways they want performance evaluations or feedback to be provided. You can learn them by spending time with them and being open to new and different ways.

So, as a leader, how can you possibly deal with all of these variations? My experience is that kindness, respect and encouragement are universally understood and appreciated. Not everyone wants or needs the same methodologies applied to them but they all appreciate and thrive when they are respected and dealt with as adults.

Misunderstanding is almost universally likely to happen on a regular basis. Open and frequent communication seems to be the only antidote to that. Asking questions. Finding out what they heard vs. what you said. All are key to creating a positive work environment regardless of the generation you are speaking with.
