Empower

#Beingaleader means you need to empower your team. Giving them power. Authority. Showing confidence in them to make the right decisions as if you were making them yourself.

Leader, are you empowering your team or showing only your power to your team? They cannot learn without you empowering them. They cannot get better at decision making without having the power to make some decisions. And probably make some mistakes along the way. Kinda like you did.

So, how does one empower their team? One way is to give them tasks beyond their comfort zone and asking them to do things that you will be relying on. Empowering them doesn’t remove responsibility from you. In fact, it creates more responsibility because now not only do you have to make sure the results are good but you are also putting yourself in a coaching environment that requires feedback and teaching along the way. But in the end you are getting a better team member out of the deal.

Another way to empower them is to not micromanage them. Don’t ask for every detail. Don’t require your approval for each step. Regardless of the stage they are in in their own leadership, empower them to grow as a leader. Give them training. Give them the tools. Expose them to leadership from others (in person, online, books etc.) that will teach them in ways that perhaps you cannot teach them.

#Beingaleader means you need to empower your team. Give them some power today.
