Lies

#Beingaleader means you have to deal with lies. Lies from others. Lies from within. We hear so many lies every day. Intentional ones. Unintentional ones. Cultural ones. Things we thought were true but aren’t.

People lie to you all the time. Sometimes with malice. Sometimes with ignorance. They often just can’t help themselves. So you need to know how you are going to respond. What efforts do you go to to uncover the truth? What lies can be ignored and just do what you need to be doing? What motivation stands behind those lies that you might need to correct rather than focusing on the lies itself? In a team context, so much is dependent on the relationship you have with the person as to how you will respond. If you have experience of trusting this person then it might be easier to calmly confront and handle it that way. If they are a constant source of lies and you don’t have the ability to fire that person then maybe you need to just ignore them.

Some of the lies lie within you. You have been raised a certain way. You have believed certain things. And with more information or mistakes that happen you find out that you have been carrying this lie. Often times it’s the internal lies that are the most difficult to defeat. That’s because they are often sincerely held beliefs that you must now overcome with fact or experience that say otherwise. That’s when true growth happens. When you are able to identify the lie within, believe something new, and start building again.

#Beingaleader means you have to deal with lies. Learn to lean into the truth.
