Modern Leadership – #7 – Handling AI

Beingaleader means you need to learn to handle AI and its potential impact on the workplace. You cannot simply put your head in the sand and hope for the best. You need to begin preparing. Now.

I’ve seen two types of responses to the upcoming impact of AI in the workplace. Apathy and Fear. Both of these will not put you in the right position to deal with the inevitable. Push them aside and learn more today than you knew yesterday.

We should not be apathetic about the impact of AI. “If I just close my eyes and wait it out it won’t affect me.” AI is moving very fast into every facet of work life. It is coming and often it is already here for many. AI will become the go-to for business systems and many other applications. The trust level for it’s application will increase over time as will its acceptance. Don’t close your eyes. It’s coming.

Additionally, we should not be fearful about the impact of AI. For some it’s the fear of losing their job. For some it’s the fear of the unknown. And for others it’s the fear of being left behind. There will be job impacts. But there will also be tremendous job growth into new areas and facets. Remember the thoughts surrounding the impact of smartphones? Yes, they have impacted jobs in some arenas. But they have increased job impact positively in many others. Being fearful of it isn’t going to help you deal with it. You might be technology challenged. You might think you’re too old. Don’t let that stop you exposing yourself to the possibilities. You might find that AI could generate income long into your retirement.

Beingaleader means you need to learn to handle AI. Don’t be apathetic and don’t fear. Embrace and learn.
