Beingaleader means you need to know how to connect with and among your team. Employees are looking for connection. Connection to people. Connection to a purpose. Connection for community.
Connecting to people is a high priority for many employees today. Connecting on a regular basis with specific individuals especially their supervisor who can provide both access and feedback. This can be email, text or a Teams meetings. People want this connection. They don’t want to be sitting remotely at their desk without human interaction. Provide it to them on a regular basis. They need to know that they are doing what you have asked them to do. Most people want to do a good job but often don’t feel the power to connect with you. So, connect with them.
Connecting to a purpose is what people mean when they say they don’t know why they are being told to do something. They want to know the why. Purpose is a strong motivator. But it has to be understood. It has to be believed. It has to matter. People are working for you and want to know it’s worth their efforts and time investment. They often develop a sense of loyalty to you when you have a track record of being trustworthy.
Connecting for community. Here is where things have really changed in the modern era, in my view. The remote world is screaming out for community. Unfortunately, many people seek that out not in their true physical community, church or other group activities but rather seek it out at work. This is different than the connection with a boss about feedback and purpose. This is a connection of meaning. Sometimes organized. Sometimes organic. But many people enjoy those gatherings where they can share their personal lives or activities with others. Provide that opportunity.
Beingaleader means you need to know how to connect with and among your team. Connect with someone today.
