Too often teams slow down because the leader isn’t moving. The leader should be ahead. The leader should be the driver. They should be in constant movement towards the goal. Progress. Fixing things. Repairs being done as needed. But always moving. And being seen moving. The leader sets the pace.
Have you ever seen an organization when the leader stops moving? That organization is slowly dying. They have not only lost any momentum they had. But they are coming to a stop soon. Decisions are no longer being made in a timely manner. Dreams and visions are no longer being cast. Everything seems old and stale. Like a non-moving lake. Stagnant.
My favorite leadership phrase remains this: everyone wins when the leader gets better. That’s movement. That’s the way forward. Get better. Take action. Decide something. Inspire. Move.
