Beingaleader means that you need to bring peace to the circumstances you find yourself in. I’ve written numerous times about having peace yourself. But now it’s time to look at the importance of bringing peace to your team.
I have been in numerous circumstances in my career where the leader brought everything but peace. Conflict. Stress. Anger. Doubt. Even betrayal. But a good leader makes the place they are in better for having been there. They bring peace.
So how do you bring calm and peace to your work environment? One of the things is to create and maintain relationships with those that you work with. Another is using vocabulary and tone that is confidence building. It is not tearing down or degrading. Too often we see leaders yell and degrade as if that is a motivating factor. While it may motivate for a short period it will not in fact inspire.
We have to remember that work is just work. It’s part of our life but it’s not our life. We choose to work at that location or office or team. Why wouldn’t you as a leader want to make it the safest and most peaceful place to work? Why are so many leaders of the opinion that stress and negativity are the best motivators? To me, it shows a lack of character on their part and is not something to aspire to as a young leader.
Beingaleader means you need to bring peace. Bring peace to whatever size circle of impact you have and make the workplace a place where people want to be.
