#Beingaleader means you have to exhibit patience. Patience is defined as more than waiting (https://beingaleader.blog/2021/02/02/waiting/). Patience is more what you do with the waiting. It is defined as ‘the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.’ So, while many people might be okay with waiting, they aren’t very good with patience. They wait but get angry. They wait but are upset. A patient person does not.
There is an old adage that says ‘don’t pray for patience’ because your life will fall a part and you will get tested on whether or not you have patience. But the reality is that leadership requires patience so you might as well learn it now. Patience is required for every facet of life including parenting, work, social interactions etc.
Patience is often about the capacity to accept or tolerate something. So how does one develop such a capacity? In my view, it’s both experience and mindset. Experience gives you stories to draw upon. Mindset is a decision you make beforehand on how you will handle it when ‘delay, trouble, or suffering’ comes. So, decide to be patient.
#Beingaleader means you need to exhibit patience. Trouble will come. How you deal with it is your choice.
