Curveball

#Beingaleader means you’re sometimes thrown a curveball. Something unexpected. Something life altering. How will you react? Don’t try to hide. Don’t try to deny it happened. Embrace the suck as they say.

Allow yourself time to grieve whatever loss you experienced with that curveball. Maybe it’s a relationship lost. A position lost. A change in financial well being. A stock market move in the wrong direction. Whatever it is, experience the pain of it. Don’t block it out. Don’t soldier through. Experience it. Others are watching how you respond. Don’t try to fake it. Let them see the real you. How you actually deal with the curveball.

Then figure out how to respond to it. You’re a leader. That means you are not new to curveballs. You have dealt with them successfully before. You might not know what the next step is but you know enough about yourself, your leadership, your situation and your experience, that gives you confidence in whatever might come after.

Then move on from it and grow from it. There are always lessons to learn. Things that you might not have experienced before that now are part of your leadership toolkit. Don’t miss this opportunity to change direction. To focus energy elsewhere. It’s as much an opportunity as it is a curveball. However you grow from it will make you more prepared for the next (inevitable) curveball in your life and leadership.

#Beingaleader means you’re sometimes thrown a curveball. Get ready to hit it out of the park.
