Beingaleader means you will be hiring people. You need to look at the people you want to hire and the process you are using to find them or scare them away.
You want to hire high value people. That’s the goal. People who will do the job. Who will grow with the job. And work well with the others on the team. And yet you spend so little time actually finding the right candidate(s). Sure, you have the HR or recruiters searching online and screening resumes through various AI, but you aren’t actually very much part of that screening process and yet you’re the one or the team that is needing the right person.
The current hiring process is totally broken from both the hiring and wanting to be hired point of view. From the position of the hiring person, you are being inundated with resumes. Mostly from people not qualified for what you are looking for but also the sheer volume of likely good candidates. The question remains: are you finding the right person? Even if you choose someone from the list of those that got through the screening process, is it the right person? Often it seems that the right person doesn’t make it through the process. Often the system that is being used actually prevents you from finding the right person because you set up criteria that are not as important to the job as you lay it out. Yes, that requirement might be nice to have but so much of most jobs today can be learned. In fact, you often have to get the candidate to unlearn something from a previous employer before they become of any great use to you.
From the position of the wanting to be hired person, the process is broken because every employer it seems wants you to create an account with them, answer the same questions that are already on your LinkedIn account or resume, and they want you to try and trick their ATS system by faking key words from the job description. Do you really want AI to hire your person? Or more likely, push the right person off and help you find the second or third best candidate? Hiring is a two way street, affecting everyone involved. It’s time to bring the humanity back into the process. Finding the right person will take time. But the question is whether finding the right person is important enough for you to take the time?
Beingaleader means you will be hiring people. Do better at hiring the right people.
