Beingaleader means you need to have intuition. Intuition is the ability to understand, know, or decide something immediately without conscious reasoning, logical analysis, or clear evidence.
Leaders need intuition. And specifically, leadership intuition. What is leadership intuition? It’s thinking like a leader at every decision point. Not focusing on the problems but focusing on creating solutions. Not focusing on just the present but where your team is going. Oftentimes without conscious thinking. It’s just where your mind goes as a leader.
When a team member does something incorrect, it might be a normal response to reject them or overcorrect them. But the intuition of a leader should gear you more towards how did I or the team or the system fail this employee? Why did they react or do that thing incorrectly? Did we fail in our training? In our supervision and input? How can we do things better so that doesn’t happen again? Intuition of a leader.
Intuition is about feeling what is right without knowing what is right. When you apply it to leadership, it helps you focus on advancing the cause rather than being left sitting wondering what happened and why. It’s not about being right or wrong all the time. It’s about how you naturally react to situations. And whether you naturally have leadership intuition. It will come with experience, wisdom and the application of those two to the next situations.
Beingaleader means you need to have intuition. Develop some today.
